Our Mission

Founded in 2019 by Michael Farquharson, Care-to-Share is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (MA SOC Filing Number: 201926193360) with a mission to make a difference in the lives of youth and elderly through music. Care-to-Share leverages youth's innate talents and ignites their curiosity and creativity while at the same time enriching the lives of the elderly through performances.

Passionate About Inspiring Others

Music has been a way of life for me. It would not be wrong to say, to great extent, music has shaped me into who I am today. Yet I have to admit that I was fortunate to have had the chance to experience the world around me through music at an early age, learning how to play violin and piano. How fortunate is that?  If you ask me what music means for me, I would say:happiness and resilience.

All these years that I was surrounded by music, I could not help but recognize that music indeed is a privilege-one that requires sacrifice, guidance and commitment, which may be absent in many children's lives. So sharing my experience with others and providing the opportunity for those who haven't had the kind of access that I had has become a mission for me, and  I know this mission will only make my connections with music deeper and my life more meaningful.

My partners in mission from NEC prep, Newton South High, across the US and overseas are joining hands in Care-to-Share. We need  you as tutors, performers, fundraisers, donors and many more. Please join us and make a change!

We Believe In The Power Of Music

It would be fair to say I was born into music. Having both parents as musicians and music educators, music has been around me as long as I can remember. Cello has been my biggest passion throughout my life. I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to have an instrument at an early age, take lessons and become a musician. It takes a lot. From parents. From you. From the community. It was the New England Conservatory Prep School where I found many unique opportunities to grow as a musician, perform major solo, chamber, and orchestral works around the world, got to study with some of the best teachers, and learned to express myself to the world through the beauty of music. In addition to that, it was the New England Conservatory Prep School where I got to know Michael and his initiative Care-to-Share, and joined the non-profit journey. We believe in the power of music, and we believe that it can benefit all communities.

Although our program is open to everyone, our specific target demographic is younger people who may be economically disadvantaged. Our goal is to provide music education and the ability to perform to those who lack the ability to participate in expensive/advanced music programs. Hence, our mission applies mainly to those in need of opportunities to find ways to connect and make music an important part of their lives.
